Dr. Farzaneh Ansari, President of the Iran National Standards Organization of (INSO), called for deeper technical cooperation among BRICS member countries, urging the bloc to move "from dialogue to joint action" in key areas including artificial intelligence, data governance, cybersecurity, and green economy standards.
Addressing the Meeting of Heads of BRICS National Standards Bodies in Bengaluru, Ansari highlighted the growing importance of international standardization in addressing global challenges such as climate change, supply chain disruptions, cyber threats, and economic uncertainty.
She stressed that stronger cooperation in standardization, conformity assessment, and quality infrastructure would enhance trade, strengthen supply chain resilience, and support sustainable economic growth across BRICS economies.
Dr. Ansari also proposed the establishment of a BRICS technical working group on artificial intelligence, data governance, and cybersecurity standards, as well as a mutual recognition mechanism for testing, inspection, and conformity assessment results to reduce technical barriers to trade. She further called for the development of a common framework for green economy standards.
Expressing support for the BRICS Memorandum of Understanding on Standardization, Ansari said its signing could mark the beginning of a new phase of practical and strategic cooperation among the national standards bodies of BRICS member states.
