Iran Proposes “SCO Regional Conformity Mark” to Facilitate Trade
Addressing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting of standardization chiefs in Moscow, the President of Iran’s National Standards Organization (INSO), Dr. Farzaneh Ansari, called for the establishment of an "SCO Regional Conformity Mark."
Ansari highlighted standards as the essential link between security and trade development, arguing that a unified quality infrastructure is necessary for a sustainable regional supply chain. She proposed that the new mark function similarly to the EU’s CE mark, serving as a badge of trust and quality to reduce technical barriers, compliance costs, and border bureaucracy.
Further emphasizing the need for regional alignment, Ansari advocated for the gradual convergence of technical regulations and the creation of a "Comprehensive Joint Atlas System" for member states' standards. She also proposed forming a dedicated technical committee to oversee these initiatives and expressed hope that the meeting would culminate in a joint pact to reduce trade barriers.
