Meeting between the General Director of SMIIC and the President of INSO
Ehsan Övüt, Secretary General of the Standard and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), is currently in Iran to participate in the Halal Exhibition held in Isfahan, organized by Isfahan Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.
On the first day of his visit, Övüt paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Farzaneh Ansari, the newly appointed President of the Iran National Standards Organization, where he extended his congratulations on her well-deserved appointment.
During their meeting, Dr. Ansari highlighted the rich historical ties between Iran and Türkiye, emphasizing a commitment to expand standardization efforts. She also noted Iran's continuous membership in SMIIC's Board of Directors for six terms.
Dr. Ansari further called for greater support from Türkiye to attain the presidency seats and expand the activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Governance Committee, SMIIC MAC and BOD, which approved by the Secretary General of SMIIC.
Iran’s Vice President emphasized that the strength of National Standardization Bodies is rooted in their standards development, highlighted INSO’s approach in the realm of standardization, particularly concerning halal regulations, aiming to secure a larger share of global markets and enhance the competitiveness of Iranian products. She noted the existence of 20 halal standards within SMIIC and indicated that these standards are being developed and implemented more rapidly in our country.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ihsan Övüt praised Dr. Ansari's expertise in technical discussions on standardization, particularly regarding halal standards, and expressed his support for Iran's membership in relevant technical committees. He viewed the meeting as a springboard for broader collaboration and highlighted the INSO’s growing involvement in SMIIC discussions. The Secretary-General of SMIIC emphasized that effective standards require input from experts, asserting that experience is crucial for creating implementable standards beyond mere documentation.
