An online meeting of senior managers from the national standardization organizations of BRICS countries was convened by The Brazilian Technical Standards Association (ABNT) to enhance multilateral cooperation in standardization. Attendees included officials from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Iran, a new member of BRICS.
Key topics included evaluating the qualifications of representatives for a joint working group and discussing a draft memorandum of understanding for multilateral cooperation. Dr. Farahnaz Ghalesi, Deputy for Standard Development and Promotion at Iran's National Standards Organization, proposed strategies for effective collaboration and emphasized the need for enhanced coordination to strengthen BRICS' influence in international organizations.
The meeting concluded with plans for an in-person gathering of BRICS standardization leaders in Brazil at the end of June.
